How to check your incoming voltage

You can easily check what your incoming voltage is to your property by simply purchasing an energy meter.

Why use an energy meter?

An energy meter is an important tool that can help you understand the energy consumption of your various electrical appliances as well as demonstrate the household voltage level of your property.

Over voltage is a common problem that leads to wasted energy and wasted money. In the UK, all electrical appliances have had to work across the EU range of voltage (207v to 253v) since the early 90’s, yet the typical UK household voltage is around 245v. By simply lowering and regulating the household voltage to 220V, VPhase can save you around 10% on your electricity bills.

How to use your energy meter

Your energy meter will allow you to find out what your household voltage is and whether you could benefit from having a VPhase fitted.

By plugging an energy meter into a wall socket you will be able to measure your incoming voltage.

You should make the measurement several times during the day at say early morning, midday, early evening and late evening. Take the highest of these readings and compare it to this table to determine the level of energy savings possible in your house by using VPhase Voltage Optimisation.

An energy meter can be purchased from a range of different retail outlets such as Maplin and REUK
