VPhase shown off in new Sustainable Blacon Eco House

09/09/2011
Sustainable Blacon hosted an open house event recently, where they demonstrated a range of technologies in their new eco-home in Stamford Road, Blacon, Chester. In amongst the various green technologies in the house was a VPhase voltage optimisation device, which lowers and regulates the voltage in the home, reducing electricity bills by up to 12%.
The Sustainable Blacon property has been significant upgraded with major funding from the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) and Cheshire West and Chester Council. It is another asset to employ in their campaign that aims to demonstrate a wide range of energy saving features, many of which are not only innovative, but which are practical and accessible to most households.

“It’s an important demonstration for VPhase, being able to show clearly how the device works in a complementary manner to other green tech”, explains Matt Cody, head of marketing at VPhase. “Helping people understand that voltage optimisation is not only a low cost, proven technology but that it will also save them money too, is an essential activity for us”.

As tests have demonstrated, after insulation, voltage optimisation is the next most effective and affordable green measure for the home; and as any qualified electrician can fit one – it really is a case of fit and forget, saving instantly.
Ged Edwards Chief Executive of Sustainable Blacon said, “We are delighted to support vPhase as a leading low carbon technology supplier. The Eco House provides an ideal opportunity for such companies to demonstrate technologies which are suitable for the domestic setting and interact with the public and potential suppliers in a natural environment. We hope others can follow their leading example.”

Other technologies on display in the eco home included solar PV, LED lighting, recycling facilities and even a wormery!

About VPhase

VPhase plc is an energy efficiency technology company that launched the first domestic voltage optimisation device in the UK. The VPhase VX1 lowers the voltage in the home, reducing the energy consumption of many electrical appliances, saving money and reducing carbon emissions.

The VPhase device:
  • has been proven to save up to 12% off home electricity bills;
  • is easily installed by a qualified electrician;
  • does not require a change in lifestyle or electricity supplier;
  • is low cost, with a typical payback of under 5 years;
  • has a 5 year manufacturer’s warranty and an expected lifespan in excess of 25 years;
  • can save up to 4.5 tonnes of CO2 over its 25+ year life;
  • attaches to the consumer unit (fuse box) and regulates the voltage to 220 volts;
  • is the next most affordable and effective green option for the home, after insulation.
The VPhase VX1 has been extensively tested with independent verification supporting the saving claims, including an Ofgem approved CERT demonstration action, social housing trials and a range of independent consumer trials. Many electrical appliances in the home will benefit from having their voltage optimised and reduced, including fridges, freezers, central heating pumps, televisions, washing machines, vacuum cleaners, etc. – and even ‘energy-saving’ light bulbs. As well as potentially saving up to £135 per annum, there is evidence that the life of electrical appliances can be extended by the use of this product; light bulbs in particular, have demonstrated at least a doubling of operating life when on a voltage optimised circuit.
